Dr Harnett is an Associate Professor in the School of Criminology and Criminal Justice, Griffith, University in November. Prior to moving to Griffith University he worked for 16 years in an academic position in the School of Psychology at the University of Queensland. He trained as a Clinical Psychologist and worked in a specialist child protection team at the Maudsley Hospital in London. After moving to Australia, he worked as a Clinical Psychologist in care and protection for the NSW Department of Community Services and Queensland Health.Â
Dr Harnett is the co-developer of the Parents under Pressure (PuP) program, a home visiting program designed for high-risk families (e.g., parental substance misuse and families involved with the child protection system). He also has an interest in child protection decision making, which includes the development of a procedure for assessing parental capacity to change.Â
He was made a Fellow of the Australian Psychological society for his services to the profession.
