Marianne Vital is a DPhil student in Social Policy and a recipient of the ESRC Grand Union Doctoral Training Partnership studentship. Her research focuses on the school-to-work transition in the Philippines, focusing on young people who are not in education, employment, or training (NEET). She aims to investigate the reasons and consequences of this phenomenon in a developing country, applying a Life Course perspective and using quantitative methods.
Prior to her DPhil studies, Marianne accumulated 14 years of experience in economic research and project management. She worked with organizations such as the World Bank, the Asian Development Bank, government agencies, and think tanks. Additionally, she served as a Senior Economics Lecturer in three academic institutions in the Philippines.
As part of her advocacy in education and promoting better citizen engagement, Marianne co-founded a platform in the Philippines called 'Usapang Econ.' This platform aims to educate the wider public on economic concepts used in policy discourse through podcasts, videos, and blog articles.
Marianne earned her MPhil from the University of Cambridge, where she examined the preliminary impact of the K to 12 Basic Education Reform program in the Philippines on youth work and education outcomes.
