Dr Lukas Lehner is an Assistant Professor at the University of Edinburgh. He is an Associate Member of the Department of Social Policy and Intervention, University of Oxford.

Lehner’s research focuses on economic and social policies in a changing world of work, with an emphasis on unemployment and inequality. He led on the design and evaluation of the Marienthal Job Guarantee pilot, which offered jobs to long-term unemployed people and informed the European Commission’s €23 million investment in job guarantee pilots across Europe. His research was recognized by several awards including the ESRC Prize for Outstanding Early Career Impact and has been featured widely including by The New Yorker, Financial Times, CNN and Nature in print and by ARTE, ARD, and ZDF on TV.

Previously, he worked for the OECD Chief Economist and the International Labor Organisation. He studied at LSE, MIT, UC Berkeley, WU Vienna, and the University of Oxford, where he completed his PhD in 2024. Up-to-date information is available on his website.
