Kimberly is a lawyer, with research interests in international human rights and refugee law. She has recently completed an MSc in Refugee and Forced Migration Studies from the University of Oxford and an LLM in Human Rights from the University of Cape Town. Â
Her specific focus is on the policies that support refugees to integrate in their new country, promote self-reliance, and enable them to live a dignified life. During her LLM, she critically analysed the Global Compact on Refugees (GCR) to assess whether it offers practical solutions to developing countries which host majority of refugees and asylum seekers, comparing refugee programmes and their outcomes in Kenya and Jordan.   Â
At the Refugee Study Centre, she wrote on responsibility sharing under the GCR, through an-in depth analysis of the Comprehensive Regional Protection and Solutions Framework (known as MIRPS in its Spanish acronym), one of the implementation forums under the GCR. Â
After her MSc, Kimberly received an award by the Bonavero Institute of Human Rights to undertake three months field work at the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) in their Jordan Field Office. She has also previously done research and project work for UNODC (Eastern Africa Regional Office) and the Democratic Governance and Rights Unit at the University of Cape Town. Â
