Dr Tim Vlandas

Tim Vlandas is Professor of Comparative Political Economy and Social Policy in the Department of Social Policy and Intervention. He is also a Fellow of St Antony’s College and an associate member of Nuffield College. In the past, he has also held visiting positions at Harvard University, the London School of Economics and Political Science, Sciences Po Paris, and the University of Konstanz.
Professor Vlandas has been awarded prizes by the American Political Science Association, the European Network for Social Policy Analysis and the London School of Economics. His research has been funded by the British Academy and has appeared in over 60 publications in leading international academic journals, such as the British Journal of Political Sciences, Comparative Political Studies, the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, and World Politics. He has been cited by prominent international organisations such as the OECD, the ILO, the UN, the World Bank, the European Commission, and the European Parliament, as well as the UK House of Commons and media outlets such as the New York Times, the Economist, the Guardian, Financial Times, Die Zeit, and CNN.

Using a comparative political economy approach, Professor Vlandas explores the political and economic determinants and consequences of social and economic policies in advanced capitalist democracies.
His research has appeared in over 60 publications in leading international academic journals, including the British Journal of Political Science, Comparative Political Studies, European Journal of Political Research, Journal of Common Market Studies, Perspective on Politics, PLOS ONE, Political Behaviour, Political Science Research and Methods, Politics&Society, Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, Socio-Economic Review, West European Politics, and World Politics.
He is currently working on his next monograph on the political economy of ageing, under contract with Oxford University Press and funded by a British Academy mid-career fellowship.
