Deanna Marie Giraldi is a doctoral candidate in the Department of Social Policy and Intervention at the University of Oxford. Her research centers the biopsychosocial impacts of gun violence exposure on survivors, their families, and wider communities in the United States.
Prior to her doctoral studies, Deanna worked with the National Academies of Science, Engineering, and Medicine in Washington D.C. to address health disparities with a particular focus on race and socioeconomic status, producing consensus reports for the U.S. Congress. She also worked with Everytown for Gun Safety as a research and policy advisor, focusing on interpersonal violence and trauma.
Deanna previously earned two bachelor degrees with honors from Vassar College - one in biology and another in political science - as well as a Master in Public Health with a focus in Health Policy and concentration in Global Health from the Yale School of Public Health. Deanna has conducted public health and social policy research in the United States, Cuba, Scotland, the Republic of Ireland, Northern Ireland, and England on healthcare systems, health equity, migrant mental health, and 'health in crisis.'
