Sopuruchukwu Obiesie is a DPhil student supervised by Professor Lucie Cluver at the Center for Evidence Based Intervention and a recipient of the Barnett House-Nuffield Joint Graduate Scholarship in Social Intervention and Policy Evaluation. Her interests lie in exploring comprehensive and systematic social policy approaches to improving health and development objectives for young persons. Her DPhil Thesis, co-supervised by Dr William Rudgard, will engage policy makers and respond to current policy interests to apply innovative methodologies in economic evaluation with a goal of identifying an optimal mix of interventions to accelerate adolescents’ achievement of SDGs in Nigeria.Â
She obtained an MSc with a distinction in International Health and Tropical Medicine at the Center for Tropical Medicine and Global Health, University of Oxford, funded by the Exxon Mobil Global Health programme. Her MSc Thesis and subsequent research work at the Accelerating Achievement for Africa’s Adolescent’s (Accelerate) hub work explored how to conduct economic evaluations of interventions improving multiple outcomes, with a focus on parenting programmes and interventions enhancing food security for preventing multiple forms of violence against adolescents from vulnerable households in South Africa.Â
She completed medical training in Nigeria and has experience in providing comprehensive sexual and reproductive health services, including to victims of childhood sexual abuse and in a technical capacity as a sub-national health programme officer in Nigeria, assisting in setting and executing state-wide agendas on reproductive health service delivery in health facilities and during humanitarian crises.
